FLOATATION THERAPY FOR BACK AND NECK PAIN

back-pain-280517

Floatation therapy has achieved remarkable success in easing chronic pains such as neck and back pain, and helps with correcting spinal misalignment issues in a treatment regular program.Statistics show that chronic back pain is next to heart disease. It is estimated that 70–90% of people will suffer from lower back pain in some form at some point in their lives.

Origination and individual perception of pain are related to the degree of relaxation in the muscles and to the general degree of stress in the nervous system. The physical relaxation produced by the sensory deprivation tank makes it an extremely beneficial healing environment, especially for those with injuries or chronic pain. Since the effects and stresses of gravity are lessened, the body is able to more efficiently allocate its resources towards maintenance and healing. This alleviation in conjunction with other therapies like massage, yoga and other exercise can lead to prolonged periods of respite from pain.

How Does Float Therapy Relieve Back Pain?

An increasing body of scientific evidence shows that float therapy can significantly alleviate pain, for a number of reasons:

Reduction of overstimulation of the nervous system

As a physiological form of relaxation, floating has an effect on the subjective perception of pain and on the autonomic nervous system, the system of pathways which transport pain impulses. A radical reduction of exterior sensory stimuli reduces stimulation of the nervous system so perceivably that overstimulation is reduced and pain is perceived as being less intense.

  1. Increased endorphin release

Relaxation and the reduction of sensory stimuli contribute to an increase in the release of endorphins and can thus be linked to pain relief also at bio-chemical level. A higher level of natural opiates in the blood of test persons was reliably tested in various examinations.

  1. Increased magnesium absorption

Magnesium plays an important role in pain management, as it is a natural pain killer besides enhancing many physiological bodily processes. Studies show that magnesium treatment immediately following injury improves both short and long term outcomes among patients with spinal cord injury. Magnesium is easily absorbed via the skin so with over 600kgs of Epsom salts in each of our pods, you’ll be sure to absorb a whole lot of it!

  1. Orthopaedic benefits of being weightless

Floating in a saturated solution of Epsom salt enables the body to take a position which is unlike lying on a bed, bath or any other surface. This particular position is characterised by:

The spine is completely straight

Individual vertebrae are not functionally twisted

All muscle groups can relax simultaneously

Joints, intervertebral discs, ligaments & bones are relieved.

Hereby acute and chronic tension is released and slipped discs, joint pains, sciatica, lumbago, pulled muscles or sprains improve.

Float Therapy And The Spine

Nearly all types of back pain originate in the spine. The spine carries the weight of the torso and has to therefore adapt to pressure in various situations.

Misalignment, one-sided strain, or age-related wear and tear often lead to chronic pain. The spine is divided into three major sections:

Cervical spine

Thoracic spine

Lumbar spine

Each section is associated with distinct problems and kinds of pain:

Cervical spine

Although the cervical spine carries the least amount of weight, blockages in the joints often lead to pain. When suspended in a floatation pod, the vertebrae lie free from any pressure or contortions and are thus able to regenerate in a completely new way. The pain-relieving effect of this treatment is very plausible.

Thoracic spine

The thoracic spine is less often a source of pain, but pain can often be very intense. The ribs are attached to the spine over joints where incorrect movement or accidents can lead to problems.Experience has shown that the healing process of bruising, breaks or sprains is accelerated when the thoracic spine is not weighed down by gravity and lies in a completely relaxed position.

Lumbar spine

Most cases of back pain originate in the lowest section of the spine, as it carries the entire weight of the torso. The inter-vertebral discs, which act as the spine’s shock absorbing system, lose a portion of their fluid every day. The degree to which the discs are replenished diminishes as we grow older or if the spine is subject to a lot of stress and the inter-vertebral disks slowly shrink. Muscle tension decreases and the lumbar spine arches forward. This leads to chronic back pain, which in some cases can seriously impede one’s range of motion.

Floating counteracts the above processes by enabling inter-vertebral disks to regenerate and by slowing down spinal deformation processes.

Slipped discs are often associated with the lumbar spine. When a disc is misaligned, lumbar tissue can press against the spinal nerves causing intense pain that may even radiate down into the legs, it may irritate the nerves or cause other symptoms. Floating again can be used as a supportive post-operational therapy.

Float therapy can serve as a valuable supplement to physical therapies and exercise to alleviate pain and naturally heal spinal issues.

Chronic back pain can effectively be relieved by floating. Establish a regular float practice and experience it yourself!

Are you a Software engineer? If so, you should float!

meditation_software

People use the floatation tank to turn off the noise from primary senses (visual, auditory & kinesthetic) and accelerate the transition from beta brain waves (normal state) to alpha (learning state) and ultimately theta (dream state). The process is similar to meditation, but a lot faster. Way faster and easier. It is like forced meditation without the pains of sitting up right and trying to detune the world around you.
The goal with both meditation and floatation is to reach the theta state. This is a powerful state where you can consciously listen to your subconscious mind. Usually through a series of what appears to be auditory or visual hallucinations. Monks train years to do this through meditation while staying consciously awake. Your body does this naturally every night but you switch off, fall asleep. Recall those auditory or visual flashes you get before you off switch kicks in and you fall asleep. That’s a glimpse into theta state. In an isolation tank you are consciously awake observing your subconscious mind. Most of the time. No years of training required. Just 3 floatation sessions and you can become a PRO

software-engineers-life
Our subconscious is a powerful supercomputer (no surprises there) which constantly gathers, calculates, builds patterns & connections faster than we can consciously observe (process). I think this is a natural safe measure so we don’t go insane. However imagine having the power to tap into this wealth of stored info. You know when you sometimes get a gut feeling? I believe that is the output from all the processing making their way to your conscious mind. Software guys can use the floatation tank to tap into this and get answers faster then waiting for them to bubble to the top.
The body and mind are a very busy and noisy place.
Especially if you are a software engineer you will know all about the noise and how distracting it can be to productivity. Hence why you like working nights pounding away at code, right. This feeling is common. But health wise, this is not sustainable. The answer is the floatation tank to help you calm down both mentally & physically and tap into your mind, the supercomputer.
The flotation tank immediately cuts out your auditory, visual and kinesthetic senses creating an environment similar to a womb. Allowing your mind to start exploring the inner self. Looking for answers to your questions. Tapping into the hidden recesses of the mind that are usually outside the reach of your conscious awareness.

The benefits
Relaxation (mental & physical) from the daily stresses of running your own business or writing ton of code,
Learning a new skill – play audio while you float to accelerate the learning process,
Get answers to questions faster – you’ve heard of sleep on it right and that it works. Well this is better because your conscious and you get more answers.
Better understand yourself – some call it enlightenment,

At Stanford scientifically proved by studying monks concluding that “Essentially when you spend a lot of time meditating, the brain shows a pattern of feeling safe in the world and more comfortable in approaching people and situations, and less vigilant and afraid, which is more associated with the right hemisphere.

Want answers to your software engineering challenges? don’t just sleep on it… Float!

Floatation therapy in Relaxopod

banner_RelaxoPodFloating Releases Endorphins
Taking a break from gravity in floatation tanks also causes fascinating and significant changes in the brain. Endorphins are released. These are powerful natural pain relievers and mood enhancers that promote a sense of well-being while further enhancing the healing benefits of the zero gravity environment.

Meditative State of RelaxationRpod_1
A person who has a high stress level will find it virtually impossible to maintain that stress level after a float session due to endorphins being released in the brain as well as their brainwaves shifting from beta to alpha and even theta. Theta is a rare brain state that is normally reserved for people trained in meditation. An important contrast to meditation is the fact that a person can achieve a theta brain state in their very first float session, making it a quick and easy shortcut to deep relaxation.

The benefits achieved in a one hour session are significant on their own, but when compared to other therapies, floatation tanks are in a category all their own.

Floatation Therapy for first time in India

RELAXOPOD-BENEFITS OF FLOATING

The beneficial effects of floating are corroborated by a wealth of scientific explanations, compiled by Michael Hutchinson in his prominent book about floatation. According to experts, if gravity ceases, the central nervous system, muscles and spinal column are relieved of their load, alleviating the effects caused by gravity. The energy thus liberated and increased cerebral capacity increase the functioning of our internal regulation system and help the organism’s regeneration. Therefore, one hour of floating is the equivalent of approximately four hours of sleep. Some scientists explain the positive effects of floating citing altered brain waves. Among normal circumstances, the theta waves experienced prior to sleep cause free association, sudden realisations and subconscious organisation and processing. Buddhist monks are able to achieve the state created by these waves after long years of training. However, floating causes a sudden increase in theta waves measurable in mere weeks. This can benefit, among others, those in creative industries, such as designers, writers, painters, architects, and advertising professionals. Other research (National Institute for Mental Health, University of Colorado) supports the fact that floating can contribute to the synchronisation of the functioning of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The left side – practical, structural, primarily used in day – to – day tasks – is harmonised with the creative and visual right half, capable of more holistic thinking. Floating thereby improves creativity, problem – solving and can speed up information reception and processing. The university of British Columbia (Vancouver) conducted research on the relation between sports and floating. The performance of basketball and darts players was measured prior to and after floating. The findings clearly reflected a positive effect on performance. Then human mind is capable of carrying out a series of imagined movements, even highly complex ones. Acts are therefore conceived in the mind, and the path to their actual execution is called natural feedback. World – class athlete and floating devotee Carl Lewis calls this process imagining and executing the perfect performance. This capability of the brain, which can be used in many different areas of our lives, is improved by floating. The success of floating can also be explained by an easily measurable neurochemical phenomenon (Medical College of Ohio, Toledo). During the early phase of humanity, where survival was the aim (called the “fight or flight”phase), the brain needed adrenalin and cortisol, both formed under stress, to ensure a quick reaction. As civilisation progressed, however, such stress hormones lost their function. A plethora of symptoms appearing under short, medium and long – term stress are caused by such hormones, which cannot exit the circulatory system (such as sleeping disorders, weak immune system, fatigue, concentration problems, excessive sweating, heart palpitations, anger outbursts, high blood pressure, cardiovascular conditions and cancer.) Floating helps prevent and alleviate stress, thus decreasing the production of “harmful” hormones. Simultaneously, it increases the organism’s natural production of “beneficial” hormones such as endorphins, which increase happiness, and beta – endorphin, which relieves pain.

Floating exerts a further beneficial effect in the following areas:

Mental health, neurology

  • alleviates the effects of stress
  • improves creativity
  • improves concentration and problem – solving
  • decreases learning difficulties
  • alleviates sleeping problems, alleviates or even cures chronic fatigue

Who Should Use The Floatation Therapy?

RelaxoPod_For_Web_n_0002WM

You know what floatation therapy is, but not sure about who can use it in daily lives? Here is a simple guide for you.

Floatation therapy has been available for a long time, but recently, various researches have proven its benefits. Also, now we are aware of who can use floatation therapy to achieve a deep state of relaxation.

The simple answer to the question of who should use floatation therapy is- those who want to achieve a healthy state of mind and body.

Following are some of the examples of people who can benefit from the floatation therapy.

Stressed Individuals

Modern life is fast-paced, and competitive which can add a lot of stress to the individuals. Stress-related ailments like high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke are considered as fatal.

Also, when we are stressed, we cannot live our life to the fullest. Our mind is constantly worrying and is under constant pressure.

Floatation therapy helps to remove stress from your mind and body and helps you to achieve the highest state of relaxation.

Working People

A vast majority of people are working round the clock, especially the BPO staff. There are tight schedules, organizational competition, screaming bosses and lots of expectations. This creates an unhealthy environment for mind and body.

These people can benefit from the floatation session, free from any distractions, away from the daily clutter of the office. The solitude in the floatation tank can truly relax the working people.

Pregnant Women

A pregnant woman goes through a lot of discomforts and hormonal changes during the pregnancy period. Also, there are lots of mood fluctuations experienced by her during this time.

Floatation therapy can reduce these physical and mental discomforts in pregnant women quite easily. Many women have experienced a stronger bond between her and the child during and after the floatation session. Ultimately, it helps in wellbeing of both mother and child. Besides, the complete weight from the back and hip is released.

Students

All the students have to be constantly in the learning phase. The stress and fatigue of exams and assignments adds constant pressure on them. Besides, they have to learn things fast and memorize and reproduce them in the exam hall under the time constraint. Most students get anxious even if they think about the exam.

Floatation therapy can improve the student’s performance in the academic evaluations. It removes stress and anxiety and students can feel refreshed after the floatation session. A calm mind can learn things faster and implement it better.

Travelling People

Some people love travelling, but the physical fatigue and exhaustion can make their situation miserable. Those who constantly travel to long distance due to their work commitments have to face jet lag quite frequently. This adds pressure to the body clocks and ultimately on our health.

To heal this fatigued body and mind, a floatation session really becomes helpful. It puts the body and mind to the deeply relaxed state, which helps in healing and rejuvenating the person completely.

Sportspersons

Sports and athletics are highly competitive fields today. Sportspersons not only have to be top in the fitness but also have to be in the proper mindset and attitude.

Because of the constant exercising schedules, the body of the sports person goes through a lot of wear and tear. Problems like sore feet, backache and joint pains are quite common for the sports person. Also, the mental stress which comes from the competition puts mental stress on the mind.

A sportsperson can feel a calm state of mind and body before his competitive event. He can perform at his optimum level if he is relaxed and body properly rested through the floatation session. After the event, the healing process of body and mind can occur rather faster with the floatation session after the sports event.

What is floatation therapy?

RelaxoPod_For_Web_n_00033WM

Have you ever wondered what floatation therapy is and how it contributes to your overall well-being in life?

There has been a lot of buzz about this new approach to stabilize your mind and cure other ailments which originates from the unhealthy mind.

Welcome to the world of floatation.

Now, it is very important to know what this is all about. What is floatation, how to get your floating experience, and how it contributes to your health and well-being of your mind.

What is floatation?

In floatation therapy, the user floats on the water. For this floating experience, floatation pod is used. Floatation pod is a soundproof tank in which water mixed with Epsom salt is filled in the appropriate amount on which user floats. This salt water gives the buoyancy effect due to which user floats on the water.

The water in the pod/tank is adjusted to the body temperature at about 93.5° Fahrenheit. Now this is where your floatation experience starts. Because water is at the temperature of your body you really don’t feel there is water below you. This gives you an effect like you are actually floating in the air!

This is also called as sensory deprivation. You don’t feel any sensory things inside the tank like senses of sight, sound and smell. It frees your mind getting distracted with the sensory feelings. Your mind and body are purely at rest in this state.

Now as you are floating your body gets more and more relaxed, your mind also starts stabilizing. And as our mind gets more stable, it gets more open to the suggestions and increased creativity. One may also perform meditation, mindfulness, auto-suggestion, self-hypnosis in such relaxed state.

This is scientifically proved therapy and has many benefits, some of which are-

  • Stress Relief
  • Emotional Healing
  • Weight Loss
  • Cure for Insomnia
  • Overcoming Jet Lag

Modern life and stress have contributed many of these ailments. Floatation is the perfect and natural therapy for these ailments as it heals your mind and body simultaneously.

Floatation and other therapies

Many other therapies have been used for well-being of body and mind for years. For example, Yoga, Meditation, Massage therapy etc. They have their own benefits, but they differ from floatation therapy with respect to relaxation of mind and body.

For example, yoga therapy really has some learning curve. You have to actually learn asanas that too in the proper form. In yoga, body stretches may involve varying level of intensity. The yoga offers relaxation through different poses and stretches to the body.

Meditation sometimes becomes very difficult for the beginners. Sometimes it becomes a frustrating experience to concentrate the mind when so many thoughts come to our mind constantly. Being focused and free from the clutter of the mind seems impossibility for many practitioners.

Massage therapy too works when it is done by the proper therapist. It is totally depending on the other person and his ability to make your body relaxed. Also, many people do not feel comfortable being semi-nude in front of the therapist or sometimes they don’t feel good about someone touching their bodies.

In floatation therapy, you are isolated and completely being with yourself in the floatation pod. It slows down your brain waves from higher beta state to theta state, which gives the effect of deep meditation, which could take a lot of time if you simply do meditation or yoga practice.

Although floatation therapy is different from other relaxation techniques, you can reap maximum benefits if you combine it with above-mentioned methods. For example, a floatation session after yoga can truly calm your mind and body and you feel deep relaxation.

Floatation therapy leaves your body deeply relaxed, properly rested and strong. It is the simplest way to enhance your overall wellbeing.

What have been your methods to relax? What do you think about floatation therapy?
